Here, you will find all the information you need to get involved in helping to shape cancer services in north east London.
What is PCVC?
PCVC – Patient and Carer Voice in Cancer – is our group of patient and care representatives who are working with us to make a real difference to people living with cancer in north east London.
We want to provide better services to our local communities, whether it is prevention, diagnosis, treatment or quality of life. To do this in the best possible way, we need local people to share their experiences, challenge us, make recommendations and comment on our future plans.
PCVC is a way of making this happen. There are opportunities to get involved in a range of cancer programmes, depending on your experiences and interests.
PCVC really helps us understand what is important for patients.
How do I become a patient or carer representative?
If you have personal experience of cancer as a patient or carer in north east London, we would like to hear from you.
To qualify, you should have received cancer treatment, or cared for someone with cancer, in any of the following areas within the last five years:
- Barking and Dagenham
- City and Hackney
- Tower Hamlets
- Waltham Forest

What does the role involve?
As a patient or carer representative, you will:
- be a strong voice for local people across the boroughs of
- north east London
- influence decision-making
- tell us what works well and what needs improving
- co-design future services
- join a range of cancer programmes designed to improve services
- such as endoscopy, screening, and personalised care
Your commitment is flexible and any involvement is fully remote at the moment in order to ensure everyone’s safety. We will provide technical support on how to access online meetings and email communications if required.
By joining us, you’ll play an essential role in making sure that everyone can experience high-quality NHS cancer services across North East London.
